Former Oasis singer Liam Gallagher has revealed some of his pet hates about the current British music scene.
Liam Gallagher is an angry man. On the final Oasis tour before the band imploded the singer stood before an entire crowd and insisted they stop clapping so loudly. Apparently he found it distracting.
Since the Manchester giants split last year Liam Gallagher has not shied away from the limelight. Launching his new label Pretty Green the singer has also been telling anyone who will listen his thoughts on British music.
Apparently, it’s in a bad way…
Recently Liam Gallagher launched into a rant against Bloc Party labelling the band “students” amongst other insults. Now the one time Oasis icon has unleashed vitriol against a few other targets.
Speaking to Oasis fansite Live4Ever the singer was asked about British music, and Gallagher admitted that he does not know that many new groups. However those he has heard he certainly doesn’t like.
“Do you want me to say I like Bloc Party?” Gallagher asked. “I don’t even know who the new bands are. Do you want me to say I like Fire Flies? Or Arcade… or fuckin’ Bombay Bicycle – they can fuck off with that name for a start!”
“I’m not gonna pick up Bombay Bicycle’s record ’cause of the stupid fuckin’ name they’ve got.”
Bombay Bicycle Club are named after a chain of Indian restaurants in and around London. Funnily enough, the band themselves have long since gone off the name themselves but are reluctant to change it.
Continuing, Liam Gallagher spoke about the bass player in his new band. Jeff Wootton is currently on tour with Gorillaz, but is not set to record with Damon Albarn’s cartoon collective.
“He’s not going to be playing on their album. Just live. But we’ll see how it goes, you know what I mean?” explained Liam Gallagher.
“Jeff’s an ambitious kid. He’s only 24 and he’s a fully-fledged musician.”
