Oasis singer Liam Gallagher has spoken about his health problems and the group’s sudden cancellation at V Festival.
Liam Gallagher has had a busy year. Touring the world, hitting the festival season hard and launching his Pretty Green fashion range have taken their toll on the singer who recently came down with viral laryngitis.
After playing a headline slot at V Festival’s Chelmsford site the frontman realised that he was in serious trouble. Barely able to speak, Oasis couldn’t go on without their singer and pulled out of their slot at the event’s Staffordshire site.
Fans were obviously devastated. Snow Patrol were pushed up to act as headliners, with MGMT and Keane both paying tribute to Oasis by playing very unique cover versions.
But none of that made up for the loss of the Manchester giants. Using Twitter, Liam Gallagher apologised to fans and revealed that he was grateful to the other acts on the bill for keeping the flame alive.
“The voice may of disappeared but I’m still here,” he wrote. “First things first V I’m gutted, you’re gutted. I’m sorry, what can I say? Fuck all at the moment.”
He added: “Secondly, respect to those bands who covered Oasis last night, even though I might of given some of you shit in the past.”
Gallagher also spoke about tabloid speculation that the cancellation was due to internal fighting. This had sparked rumours among fans and festival goers that Oasis were set to split.
“Finally reports in smartarses’ column about Oasis last British gig ever,” he concluded. “The kid’s talking out his arse, I mean Rkids, beware of darkness.”
