Liam Gallagher, John Squire Confirm New Single ‘Just Another Rainbow’

It's really happening...

Liam Gallagher and John Squire are releasing music together, it has been confirmed.

The news has been the subject of feverish fan speculation for weeks, with Liam Gallagher have written some cryptic statements on social media. The most recent of these was a clip of supreme shredding moments from John Squire, a clear indication that something was brewing.

With those close to both parties – The Stone Roses’ biographer John Robb claims to have heard demos – hyping the endeavour, it seems that some form of collaboration has been underway for a while.

Now it’s been confirmed: a joint Liam Gallagher and John Squire single will be released on January 5th, part of a series of releases which will unfold across 2024.

The news was confirmed a few moments ago: the single is called ‘Just Another Rainbow’, and it will be given a release both digitally, and on seven inch vinyl; John Squire has designed the artwork. Pre-order your copy now.

The bond between the duo runs deep. Liam Gallagher has always cited catching the Stone Roses at Manchester’s International 2 in 1989 as a life-changing experience, while John Squire later came out onstage with Oasis at Knebworth.

The two wrote ‘Love Me and Leave Me’ for John’s later band The Seahorses, before the guitarist retreated from music to focus on his visual art projects.

Coaxed into the wildly successful Stone Roses re-union, John Squire echoed his prior engagement by coming out onstage at Liam Gallagher’s solo Knebworth stint.

Keeping in touch, John Squire sent three demos to Liam Gallagher earlier this year. ‘Just Another Rainbow’ stood out, with initial sessions taking place at John’s own studio in Macclesfield.

Completed in Los Angeles, the final results were produced by Greg Kurstin – who also plays bass on the record – while drums come courtesy of Joey Waronker.

In a note, John Squire says… “To me the most obvious take on ‘Just Another Rainbow’ is that it’s about disappointment, and the sentiment is that you never get what you really want. But I don’t like to explain songs, I think that’s the privilege of the listener, it’s whatever you want it to be. To me, it’s also one of the most uplifting tracks we’ve made together, which is weird.”

Liam adds: “I think John’s a top songwriter. Everyone always bangs on about him as a guitarist, but he’s a top songwriter too, man, no two ways about it as far as I’m concerned. There’s not enough of his music out there, whether it’s with the Roses or himself. It’s good to see him back writing songs and fucking good ones. The melodies are mega and then the guitars are a given. But I think even when you take all the fucking guitars off, you can play the songs all on acoustic and they’ll all still blow your mind.”

Can’t wait to hear it.
