Former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has revealed that glam rock stars T Rex have inspired his new album.
Liam Gallagher will always be a rock ‘n’ roll star. It’s difficult to imagine the singer swapping his mic for a piece of chalk and settling down to life as a Primary School teacher, imparting wisdom to impressionable kids.
Working on new material with several former members of Oasis, Liam Gallagher recently revealed where his musical vision is taking him. Speaking to New York radio station RXP the singer cited T Rex and David Bowie as major inspirations.
Working with former bandmates Andy Bell, Gem Archer and Chris Sharrock the group are currently undergoing writing sessions. Liam Gallagher plans to head into the studio next month, with the full album due this summer.
“Andy and Gem are on fire at the moment,” the singer claimed. There’s a bit of T-Rex and Bowie on there, I’m telling you there’s a good mix of psychedelia but there’s some good rock ‘n’ roll tunes on there”.
Continuing, Liam Gallagher revealed his plans for the new album. “We’re going to record halfway through April, we’ve got three weeks to do some tunes and if it’s all cool we’ll go back in June and finish it off” he said. “I’d like to have a tune out in October and then put another one out after Christmas and then the album in the summer.”
Speaking to the New York station RXP the singer refused to be drawn on the subject of his brother Noel Gallagher. “He’ll go and do his thing and we’ll go and do our thing and it’ll be an exciting time for music not just in England but worldwide,” he said.
“Noel’s record will be good and ours will be better.”
