Superstar songwriting offspring Liam Finn is set to return with his first new material in two years, after confirming details of his new EP ‘Champagne In Seashells’.
Crowded House are amongst the guiltiest of pleasures. Formed by two New Zealand brothers, the band’s shimmering Beatles influenced pop sold by the bucketload during the 90s before their eventual split.
While ‘Weather With You’ might not be the most credible thing to name drop at All Tomorrow’s Parties, Crowded House are an example of fantastically assured songwriting. However the group’s greatest contribution to music could well be singer Neil Finn’s son – Liam Finn.
Well known in New Zealand as the singer with Betchadupa, Liam Finn has the bubblegum pop feel of his parentage but blends this with a keen interest in the left field.
Live, the singer blends acoustic instruments with an array of pedals, looping his voice round into strange new sounds. Finn released his debut solo album ‘I’ll Be Lightning’ in 2007 to warm acclaim.
Touring the world, Liam Finn’s spectral live show stunned all those who saw it. Gaining prominent slots on Stateside chat shows, the singer seemed to make some genuine in-roads into that ever tricky American market.
Since then Liam Finn has toured heavily but found the time to take part in his father Neil Finn’s ‘Seven Worlds Collide’ project alongside Johnny Marr and members of Radiohead. Returning to the recording studio, Finn began to lay down sketches for new material.
Collected as ‘Champagne In Seashells’ these recordings are some of the most special of Liam Finn’s career. As with his debut album, the EP will be released in biodegradable material alongside a unique Polaroid picture.
Mixed by legendary sonic wizard Tchad Blake, the forthcoming EP is amongst the finest material of Liam Finn’s career to date.
Liam Finn is set to release his new EP ‘Champagne In Seashells’ on August 17th. Tracklisting is as follows:
1. Plane Crash
