The handwritten lyrics to John Lennon’s classic anthem “Give Peace A Chance” are set to go up for auction later today (July 10th) with experts predicting they could go for more than £300,000.
The lyrics were written during John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s famous bed-in protest in 1969. The Beatles legend gave the lyrics to writer Gail Renard who visited the couple and became firm friends with the pair.
Given the historic background to the lyrics, and the uniqueness of the item itself, this is one of the best examples of Lennon memorabilia to go on sale in years.
Renard discussed the sale of the lyrics with the BBC, saying that “I really was getting nervous about it and they went to live in a vault for a little while but I thought, ‘well that’s ridiculous because nobody’s enjoying them now’.”
The lyrics form part of an extensive Beatles sale at Christie’s auction rooms in London.
