Lemmy Meets Celebrity Fans

Motorhead star on fame

Cult rocker Lemmy of Motorhead has spoken of his surprise at discovering a number of celebrity fans.

Lemmy is nothing less than a rock and roll legend. Inspired by The Beatles the young star entered the music industry as a roadie for Jimi Hendrix. As the hippy dream faded he joined the group Hawkwind, and embarked on a strange journey through the world of space rock.

With both band and audience frequently indulging in drugs, a naked dancer and lyrics by science fiction author Michael Moorcock the band struck a blow for free thinking as the era of progressive rock dawned.

Lemmy would eventually exit the band after forming his own group Motorhead – slang for someone who uses the drug speed to excess. A life peppered with rock legends, a new British made movie is said to be in the works.

Motorhead are still touring the world and have been confirmed as the headliners for this summer’s Guilfest. The band are continually praised by famous musicians, with Dave Grohl recently citing the group as an influence.

In a new interview Lemmy reveals he recently found out that Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich formed California’s Motorhead fan club while Cliff Burton, Metallica’s original bassist, was the only other member.

Lemmy told the Daily Star that Jude Law is also a fan. “He came to show we did in England at the Royal Festival Hall. He showed up backstage while I was still covered in sweat and told me he loved it. He was really nice. I was surprised – you don’t think of actors liking music.”
