LCD Soundsystem To Make Another Album?

James Murphy drops hints

LCD Soundsystem could record another album together, producer James Murphy has claimed.

It’s been a long farewell. LCD Soundsystem are one of the most influential electronic acts around, spending the past decade recording stunning material.

Eager for a new challenge, James Murphy recently confirmed that their new album ‘This Is Happening’ will be their last. Set to play a lengthy farewell tour with Hot Chip, LCD Soundsystem are due to go out with style.

However now James Murphy has backtracked, explaining that the New York outfit could yet record new music together. “We’ll still make some music but playing together is such an Herculean thing because everyone lives in different parts of the world and has lives,” he told The Quietus.

“But we’ll still be making LCD Soundsystem music and stuff; we just need to go back and have it be a part of our lives rather than our whole lives.”

Continuing, the producer hinted that the band may be tiring of the album format. “We’ll do some 12-inch records and things like that. I just need to get away from it being a big thing.”

James Murphy could make music under another name, with the producer forming a new punk-inspired outfit last year.

LCD Soundsystem are set to play Reading and Leeds this weekend, the latest date on a lengthy tour. The band have spend the bulk of the summer on tour, visiting many different countries and continents.

Speaking to The Quietus, James Murphy ruled out extensive tours in the future. “It should be the last one,” he said.

“Yeah, I’ll still do music. We might even make an album. I’m just getting off of the professional album making train. I’m not counting anything out other than touring professionally.”

Reading and Leeds takes place between August 27th – 29th.
