New York group LCD Soundsystem have claimed that their forthcoming release would have been the album of the decade – if only it had been released on time.
LCD Soundsystem have been silent for too long. Ignoring a recent remix of their ’45:33′ project the last album the group released was the acclaimed ‘Sound Of Silver’ – which hit the shops all the way back in 2007.
Since then LCD Soundsystem have toured extensively, with both James Murphy and Pat Mahoney becoming in demand DJs. New material has been slow in coming, although Murphy did announce he was forming a new hardcore influenced group.
Earlier this year the LCD Soundsystem man revealed he was to drum in a new outfit, with material for the parent group taking longer than anticipated. In a new interview James Murphy does, however, claim that the tracks he have recorded so far are impressive.
Speaking to MOJO magazine James Murphy said “I’m opening a book on how long it will take after this record’s release for people to be saying ‘If this was released five months ago, it would have been the album of the decade…'”
The album is currently being completed in a studio in the United States. Despite being all instrumental Murphy insists that he wants the forthcoming LCD Soundsystem record to carry some important messages.
Recording in “a mansion. It sleeps ten and there’s an amazing pool and it felt pretty amazing” the material seems to be quite eclectic.
“I’m working on a song called ‘Why Do You Hate Music?’. Everyone seems to hate music right now, even people who make music,” he explained. “There’s a song called ‘Love In LA’, which has an Eddy Grant, Sly & Robbie feel.”
He added: “I’m doing what I set out to do on ‘Sound Of Silver’, which is take more chances.”
