Laurie Anderson, ANOHNI Combine For ‘India And On Down To Australia’

An Amelia Earhart inspired song...

Laurie Anderson and ANOHNI combine for new song ‘India And On Down To Australia’.

Revered American composer Laurie Anderson takes inspiration from aviator Amelia Earhart for her new album, with ‘Amelia’ representing a re-telling of the 20th century figure’s tragic last flight.

Joined by a cast of collaborators, the record builds into something utterly unique. Out on August 30th, the album is led by new song ‘India And On Down To Australia’, which features Laurie working alongside old friend ANOHI.

Two giants of the avant garde, Laurie’s setting brings out a special vocal from ANOHNI, the British-born artist responding with empathy and grace.

The track is bolstered by the Filharmonie Brno, conducted by Dennis Russell Davies, with Laurie pointing out: “The rhythm was from an unreleased song called ‘Rumba Club’ that I always wanted to use as something.”

She continues: “It was recorded during pandemic times. And so the orchestra recorded their part and then it came to me to put the electronics and voice on it. And I thought, ‘I need to make the story a little bit bigger, so I’m going to find a bridge between the electronic viola that I’m playing and the orchestra, so that became percussion by Kenny Wollesen, bass by Tony Sher, viola by Martha Mook – a little string trio that was organized by Rob Moose, with Nadia Sirota playing as well. And then Marc Ribot doing some groove parts and of course Anohni.  So it became this this big romantic orchestral thing.”

Tune in now.
