Laurie Anderson Announces New Album ‘Amelia’

Inspired by the story of Amelia Earhart’s tragic last flight...

New York based artist Laurie Anderson has shared plans for new album ‘Amelia’.

A vivid voice on the outer reaches of culture, Laurie Anderson continues to surprise. Her 2018 album ‘Landfall’ scooped a Grammy, and new LP ‘Amelia’ seems to be highly ambitious.

22 tracks that focus on the final tragic flight of trailblazing female aviator Amelia Earhart, the track features a lengthy cast of collaborators.

Laurie Anderson is central voice and curator, but she’s joined by the Czech orchestra Filharmonie Brno, conducted by Dennis Russell Davies, in addition to Anohni, Gabriel Cabezas, Rob Moose, Ryan Kelly, Martha Mooke, Marc Ribot, Tony Scherr, Nadia Sirota, and Kenny Wolleson.

New song ‘Road To Mandalay’ is out now, while Laurie Anderson has also shared lyrics from ‘To Circle The World’ – soak those up after the jump.

“It was the sound of the motor I

remember the most

Takeoff May 20th 1937 Oakland

California

The idea? To fly from California

back to California

To circle the world from

east to west

And to become the first woman

to circumnavigate the earth

I see something shining. North.

Northwest.”
