Laura Marling is set to release her new Jack White produced single later this month.
Laura Marling has attracted attention far and wide. Becoming a star in the UK, a number of successful tours have pushed the singer into the forefront of the music scene in the United States.
Travelling through Nashville, the singer received a phone call from Jack White. The guitarist asked Laura Marling if she wanted to quickly record a single in the Third Man studios, and she leapt at the chance.
The choice of songs reveals a lot about her songwriting. Long regarded as a successor to the West Coast scene, Laura Marling covers material from Jackson C Frank and Neil Young – both vital in that songwriting movement.
Tackling Frank’s ‘Blues Run The Game’ and the Neil Young classic ‘The Needle And The Damage Done’ the singer is entering sacred ground for many fans.
Adding her typically wonderful voice to proceedings, the entire session was completed in a day. Due to be released on Third Man Records, the single is due to drop in limited edition form later this month.
As usual, the label has prepared a collector’s item with just 100 limited-edition ‘Tri-Color’ records available from Rough Trade East on November 13th. A full black vinyl release will follow on November 15th.
Speaking to the NME earlier this year, Laura Marling explained: “I went and recorded with Jack when I was passing through Nashville on our US tour”.
“The whole process took about 25 minutes, two songs bashed out and recorded and done, it was wonderful. The care that’s gone into crafting the studio is amazing. It goes with out saying that Jack is a very important figure in modern music, and it was very exciting to work with him.”
