Mercury nominated singer Laura Marling has revealed some more details about her eagerly anticipated third album.
Part of London’s bustling indie folk scene, Laura Marling’s striking debut album ‘Alas, I Cannot Swim’ was an overwhelming artistic success. Attracting a Mercury nomination, the record was a shattering display of songwriting prowess.
Gaining a cult following, Laura Marling has been eclipsed commercially by close friends Mumford And Sons. However with her new album ‘I Speak Because I Can’ out this week (March 21st) the singer could be set to crack the charts.
Speaking to BBC 6Music, Laura Marling revealed that she has already begun work on a follow up to ‘I Speak Because I Can’.
“We’re doing pre-production at the moment. It’s taking a form now – I don’t really know which one…” she revealed.
Continuing, Laura Marling revealed that ‘I Speak Because I Can’ was a definite reaction to her debut album. “We wanted it to feel like a band album and to do it in an organic way, so we all recorded in the same room, standing next to each other” she explained. “It was really fun.”
The singer also revealed that she was inspired by reading a collection of love letter written during war time. “The content of them was so bizarre, a wife writing to her husband describing how she was made ‘wooden’ by anger that he was leaving. I thought it was such a beautiful way of putting something, being wooden by insecurity or fear or anger.”
