London indie folk chanteuse Laura Marling has cracked the Top Ten with her new album ‘I Speak Because I Can’.
With her debut album ‘Alas, I Cannot Swim’ Laura Marling became a critical darling. Her hushed tones and dramatic songwriting won rave reviews, with her live shows becoming intense emotional symphonies.
Since then, word of mouth has spread on Laura Marling. Taking time off to record her second album with close friends Mumford And Sons, the resulting songs are some of her most assured material to date.
Released last week, ‘I Speak Because I Can’ marks the arrival of Laura Marling into the mainstream. Entering the Top Ten at number four the album has beaten off competition from Paolo Nutini and the cast of Glee.
Other newcomers on this week’s chart include Goldfrapp. The dance-pop dons return with their new album ‘Head First’ ending a lengthy wait by fans for new material.
