Brilliant and berserk electro-rockers Late Of The Pier have unveiled plans to launch a new singles club.
Late Of The Pier first burst to our attention after the release of their single ‘Bathroom Gurgle’. Made available by the ever-reliable Moshi Moshi, the track was unlike anything else around in its breath-taking dismissal of common sense.
Buoyed by a synth riff the song screeched ‘move your body the bass line’. Teaming up with producer Erol Alkan, Late Of The Pier released their debut album ‘Fantasy Black Channel’ last year.
A stunning release, the album reeked of ambition. Blending electronica to rock, techno and god knows what else, ‘Fantasy Black Channel’ won rave reviews as the band’s sizzling live show toured the nation.
However it seems that Late Of The Pier are due to take a break from the road, with the band launching a new singles club.
In a mailout to fans Andrew Faley confirmed “we’re going to take some time out from Late Of The Pier live shows for a while. Figure things out properly. Do it bigger and better next time.”
“In the meantime we’re going to be working on a heap of other projects, one of which is dedicating a lot of time to setting up our label Zarcorp Inc,” he added.
“Something that’ll allow us to present other records/artists we’re involved with, love, wish we’d made or simply just honest music we feel deserves to be encased in time. It’ll also be the way we release all physical copies of upcoming/future LOTP records.”
The label will have regular monthly releases, limited to 500 copies pressed in white vinyl. In addition to this, each Zarcorp release will be available as a digital download.
“We’re doing everything from our bedrooms, completely DIY,” explained Faley. “Meaning we have complete quality control, selling it entirely via paypal on the MySpace – and a few copies will be stocked in Escalator Records in Tokyo – and processing/posting them all from home.”
Zarcorp’s next release is set to be by New Jersey band Pink Stallone, which is described as a “pretty little disco number/dubby little disco number”.
