'The Bravest Man In The Universe' draws near

Bobby Womack has revealed that Lana Del Rey makes a guest appearance on his new album 'The Bravest Man In The Universe'.

Despite years of inactivity, drug abuse and health problems Bobby Womack retains an allure, a magnetism that is difficult to ignore. So when word filtered through that the singer was working on a new studio album, ClashMusic got a little excited.

Damon Albarn has been overseeing sessions, with XL boss Richard Russell also on hand. 'The Bravest Man In The Universe' will be released later this year, and - seemingly - Lana Del Rey is to make a guest appearance.

Bobby Womack makes the revelation in the new edition of Uncut, an interview which also sees the soul icon lavishing Damon Albarn with some high praise.

Discussing the album's gestation, Bobby Womack said: “I was in hospital for six weeks with prostate cancer but I came through it . And when I first got involved with Damon a couple of years back with Gorillaz, I was coming out of a long period of heavy drug use. I’d never heard of Gorillaz when he rang me, but my daughter loved them and told me they were hot".

"Working with Damon was one of the best things that ever happened to me. He is a special soul. I have known a few of those, though many of them, people like Sam Cooke and Wilson Pickett, have passed on. Damon is like a younger version of that old school, someone who actually believes in you and lets you express yourself”.

Recorded at Albarn's Studio 13 in west London and New York's Manhattan Center, 'The Bravest Man In The Universe' is Bobby Womack's first album of original material in almost two decades.
