Lana Del Rey Retains Top Spot

'Born To Die' spends second week at number one

Lana Del Rey has notched up a second week at number one with her debut album ‘Born To Die’.

One of the most high profile performers on the planet right now, Lana Del Rey’s debut album ‘Born To Die’ was always going to chart highly after its release in late January. Notching up a number one placing in its first week of release, the real challenge was going to be retaining the top spot.

Fighting off competition from Maverick Sabre and Sir Paul McCartney, Lana Del Rey has claimed her second week at the top of the charts. ‘Born To Die’ has outsold the rest of the week’s releases, with the American singer coming out on top.

Maverick Sabre entered the charts at number two, while Paul McCartney’s collection ‘Kisses On The Bottom’ made do with third place. Recorded at the Capitol Studios building, the album saw the former Beatle re-interpreting a series of pre-rock ‘n’ roll standards.

A strong seller, ‘Kisses On The Bottom’ was just edged out by the two newcomers. Entering the charts at number three, Paul McCartney managed to steer ahead of Ed Sheeran, Adele and Van Halen.

Meanwhile, the singles chart finds Gotye nudging ahead of David Guetta. Mick Jagger, though, also manages to make an appearance as a guest of Black Eyed Peas on ‘T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever)’.

The first time Mick Jagger has made an appearance on the singles chart since his infamous David Bowie duet ‘Dancing In The Street’, the Rolling Stone had the following to say: “We had a great time recording the track and I’m glad that UK music lovers are liking it!”

The current UK Top Ten albums are:

1. Lana Del Rey – Born To Die
2. Maverick Sabre – Lonely Are The Brave
3. Paul McCartney – Kisses On The Bottom
4. Ed Sheeran – +
5. Adele – 21
