Lambchop Return With New Album

'Mr M' due on February 20th

Lambchop are set to release new album ‘Mr M’ on February 20th, followed by a handful of UK shows.

Led by Kurt Wagner, Lambchop have always been a loose knit collective. Based in Nashville, Wagner’s intelligent, literate songwriting is expanded into tumbling slices of Americana across the band’s always essential back catalogue.

On the back burner since the release of ‘OH (Ohio)’ back in 2008, Lambchop stirred into life recently. Completing work on their new album, the Nashville based group will return in the New Year.

Inspired in part by the death of a friend, ‘Mr M’ began life as a series of paintings in Kurt Wagner’s studio. “As I worked, I was approached by Mark Nevers (former full time band member & producer for the likes of Andrew Bird and Will Oldham) with the idea of making another Lambchop record. He had a concept of a sound and a method that worked with the tone of my writing. His idea was a kind of ‘psycha-Sinatra’ sound, one that involved the arranging of strings and other sounds in a more open and yet complex way.”

“It was a studio creation, not a type of recording based on band performance, and this was a radical approach for us. I felt Lambchop had one more good record in us, and this time I was going to do things as directly and true to my desires as possible.”

New album ‘Mr M’ is due to be released on February 20th, with a taster available on the band’s official website. Recently playing a set at XX Merge, you can watch a clip below…
