Ladyfest Hits London

With Kimya Dawson headlining.

Fresh from making an enormous splash on the huge-selling Juno soundtrack, Kimya Dawson heads up London’s first Ladyfest in mid-may.

The former Moldy Peaches frontwoman is the big draw for what promises to be a diverting weekend of female-fronted activity. Over a hundred Ladyfests have taken place across the world since the first event in Washington in 2000, and this volunteer-run version has a unique and varied mix of attractions.

Dawson and the Mighty Boosh-linked Robots In Disguise headline the Friday and Saturday night gigs at Camden’s Underworld, while Sunday is a special Ladyfest party featuring the Actionettes and Twee as Fuck DJs. An all-girl comedy night is also set to take place in Camden, there are numerous workshops dotted around the city, but perhaps most interesting of all is the mini film fest, which has a Riot Grrl theme with flicks featuring Bikini Kill, Huggy Bear, Le Tigre and Sleater Kinney.

It all happens from May 9th to the 11th, and all proceeds go to worthy women-centric charities. The music timetable for the event follows.
