LadBaby Team With Martin Lewis On New Christmas Single

It's a fresh take on 'Do They Know It's Christmas?'

LadBaby have thrown their hat in the ring for this year’s Christmas number one.

The social media driven duo have made a habit of claiming the festive number one spot, notching up a run of four smash hits to date. 2021’s effort caused more controversial, however, with underground punk group The Kunts leading the backlash against the pair.

Now LadBaby have confirmed plans for a potential fifth Number One single. The group will link with Money Saving Expert guru Martin Lewis for a version of Band Aid’s festive classic ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’.

On first look, it’s something that could backfire on the duo. Sure, a lot will be raised for charity, but 2021 felt like a bruising campaign – and BandAid has long since had its critics, with many viewing the song itself as deeply paternalistic and patronising in tone.

So, can they do it?

In a statement, LadBaby said: “We never intended to release a fifth Christmas single but as ambassadors of the Trussell Trust we were not prepared to sit back and do nothing in a year when people are struggling more than ever.

“So, a few months ago we approached Bob Geldof and Midge Ure and the Band Aid Trust to ask permission to rework the most iconic Christmas track of all time, Do They Know it’s Christmas. And we were truly honoured when they said yes!”

Here’s a statement from Martin Lewis.

The official UK Number One single for Christmas 2022 will be announced on December 23rd. All proceeds from LadBaby’s single will be donated to food bank charity The Trussell Trust and the Band Aid foundation.
