Flame haired electro singer La Roux is due to release her self-titled debut album on June 29th.
One of the brightest stars to emerge from 2009 so far, La Roux is named after her red hair. Intriguingly, la roux is also the core ingredient of the New Orleans dish gumbo – and the singer is ready to give fans a banquet of stunning music.
Early singles such as ‘Quicksand’ demonstrated just how much promise the singer had, combining a dancefloor savvy production with an ear for a great melody. Recent single ‘In For The Kill’ was halted just outside the Top Ten, becoming a massive radio hit in the process.
As good as the single was, however, nothing prepared listeners for dubstep guru Skream’s remix. An excursion through the murky world of sub-bass, it kept La Roux’s heart melting vocal and shrouded it in his trademark rhythms.
The forthcoming album contains these singles and much more. While some critics have harshly pegged La Roux as yet another electro singer, nothing could be further from the truth. Sure, future single ‘Bulletproof’ is a hit in waiting but songs such as ‘Cover My Eyes’ mark out La Roux as a rapidly maturing songwriting talent.
Containing backing vocals from the London Community Gospel Choir, ‘Cover My Eyes’ demonstrates the breadth of La Roux’s talent.
To whet appetites, the singer has posted a video on her Myspace page featuring some behind the scenes action.
