La Luz mainstay Shana Cleveland will release new album ‘Manzanita’ on March 10th.
The new album is part of a period of creative flow for the songwriter; Shana Cleveland released solo album ‘Night Of The Worm Moon’ back in 2019, while La Luz dropped an excellent self-titled full length in 2021.
New album ‘Manzanita’ will be released on March 10th via Hardly Art, her first project since being successfully treated for breast cancer last year.
The LP is led by beautiful new song ‘Faces In The Firelight’. A touching return, it is addressed to her life partner Will Sprott (of Shannon And The Clams), and her son – the song was actually written while he was in utero.
“The song is about watching Will tend to a huge burn pile that was still going long after dark and realising that out there in the dark field he looked like the ultrasound image we had on our fridge,” she says. “I was thinking that the greatest act of love might be to wait for someone. To say, ‘I’ll be here whenever you’re done, whenever you’re ready.’”
A sweet, heart-on-sleeve piece of music, the song is accompanied by a fantastical video. Shana Cleveland continues: “we created a fantasy realm in my backyard to visualise the sweet strangeness of the time and place when I wrote these songs: pregnant and often alone in the wilderness.”
