kwn Returns With New Single ‘no cinderella’

"That's what I'm here to do..."

kwn has shared new single ‘no cinderella’.

The East London artist is continually creative, and often shares sketches – or works in progresses – with fans over her socials. As a result, some songs have taken on cult stardom in their own right, such as her latest single.

‘no cinderella’ was teased back in 2019, but kwn kept it back. Slowly finessing the track, the audio was used by Tega Alexander in his Bullet Train premiere round up, accelerating the hype.

Out now, the song deals with the final weeks of a relationship, the dulcet melody offset by the intensely emotive lyricism. An act of storytelling, ‘no cinderella’ rejects the standard view of a ‘love song’, injecting it with some much-needed honesty.

kwn comments…

‘No Cinderella’ is an unexpected one. I wrote this song in 2019 not knowing how special it was until like a year ago. The eee hee yeah ahh melody came into my head as soon as I heard the beat and it was pretty quick writing the rest of it. It’s basically a story of me trying to tell my significant other we both know it’s not working, both keep coming back for more, but ultimately I’m trying to make it clear this ain’t gonna last forever, this isn’t some fairy tale romance movie where it’s gonna work out in the end.

This song I think means a lot because of the clear concept. It was the first time I felt like I had written something truly from the heart. Obviously I wrote it so long ago so my writing process is a lot different now, I draw from my life experiences every time I write now but before I struggled to put my thoughts to paper, I felt too vulnerable, so this was a big step for me. I’m glad I waited to put this out to be honest, even though people on TikTok send me threats to release it every day haha – 2019 wasn’t ready for this level of music… even now it feels way ahead of it’s time – but that’s what I’m here to do

The Gugzay (Skepta, Knucks) directed video is online now, and it takes kwn through a twilight London, one haunted by memories.

Tune in now.
