Kurt Cobain Letter Up For Auction

Featuring anti-MTV rant

A newly discovered letter from Kurt Cobain is up for auction featuring a rabid anti-MTV rant.

The legacy of Nirvana looms large. The band’s breakthrough single ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ was driven by a now iconic video which was given round the clock plays on MTV for almost a decade.

However Kurt Cobain had a typically contrary attitude to the station. Long regarded as a bastion of ‘hair metal’ the video channel underwent a re-vamp in the early 90s to cope with the grunge movement.

The switch was viewed with suspicion, with some arguing that it represented the further co-opting of underground ideals by a mainstream broadcaster.

Leaving no room for doubt as to his opinion, a newly discovered letter from Kurt Cobain is set to be sold at Julien’s Auctions. The missive features a rant from the late singer against the evils of MTV.

“Dear Empty TV/ the entity of all Corporate /GODS /We will survive without you/ easily – the/ old school is going/ DOWN FAST/ my lifes Dedication/ is Now to Do Nothing/ But SLAG something/ Kurdt Kobaineee professional Rock musician.”

The current highest bid for the letter has reached $2,250. It is not known how Julien’s came across the letter, although you can see a picture of it HERE.

Part of a wider ‘Legends’ auction, also available are artefacts relating to some rock legends. Items from Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson and more are available alongside more Cobain memorabilia.

Some hand written letters have been discovered, featuring the none too subtle lyric “I butt fucked her till I cryed”.
