South London's indie rock underground has been much mythologised, with countless articles – including some on this very website – espousing the merits of the universe that glides around the Brixton Windmill.
There is a reason for this, of course, and it's this: a lot of those bands are very, very good indeed. And they seem to emerge on a near daily basis.
Take Krush Puppies for instance – four friends who make off piste fuzz rock noises, their DIY grunge-influenced sound careers into lesser explored crevices.
Debut single 'Petalhead' is a potent introduction, with its intriguing structure exploding the quietLOUDquiet formula while adding fresh ideas, new elements.
There's a personal twist, too, as singer Jenny explains: “‘Petalhead’ is for my twin sister. She was feeling a long stretch of joylessness, as we both do sometimes – she lives in Mexico but I could feel her lack of spirit and wanted to send her a positive charm of some kind to connect us because I couldn't be with her.”
Watch the lo-fi visuals for 'Petalhead' below.
Krush Puppies will release 'Petalhead' via Flying Vinyl later this month – catch them at the Brixton Windmill on July 26th.
