German electronica legends Kraftwerk are set for a legal battle with proggers Kling Klang over possession of the band’s name, it has emerged.
Kling Klang is the name of Kraftwerk’s studio, and the Liverpool based proggers chose to name themselves after it in tribute to the German legends. However, it has emerged that “Kling Klang” is also the name of the band’s merchandise company, and is therefore a registered trademark.
Kling Klang – signed to Mogwai’s Rock Action imprint – are thus far defiant, but it remains to be seen how far this battle will go.
Kraftwerk have a history of court battles, and Kling Klang were reportedly expecting a writ at some stage.
The dispute is ongoing.
