Knife Opera Details

New project from Swedish group

Downright spooky Swedish synth-pop types The Knife are set to premiere their new opera.

As side projects go, this is one of the most ambitious we have heard about in some team. Barmier even than U2’s Spiderman musical, the idea of the Knife composing an opera may seem strange but it just might work.

News broke last year of a collaboration with Danish theatre group Hotel Pro Forma, which has resulted in an opera titled ‘Tomorrow, In A Year’. Said to be inspired by British biologist and father of evolutionary thought Charles Darwin, the show is set to debut later in the year.

According to the opera’s new website, ‘Tomorrow, In A Year’ has benefited from musical collaborators such as Planningtorock and Mount Sims. The Knife are known for very mysterious live shows, that depend hugely on visual props so perhaps an opera isn’t entirely out of the question.

‘Tomorrow, In A Day’ is set to debut at Copenhagen’s Royal Danish Theatre on September 2nd, with additional performances planned. Lead singer Karin Dreijer Andersson has been busy of late, working on solo project Fever Ray. The group’s official website states that tickets will go on sale on May 11th.

The opera will then go on tour throughout Europe, and is scheduled to be performed in Switzerland, Germany and the Danish city of Arhus.

The Knife, of course, featured prominently in our Essential 50. Their album ‘Silent Shout’ sneaked in at number five, click HERE to read out analysis of this stunning album!
