Kings Of Leon Talk Glee

They don't watch it

Kings Of Leon have revealed that they had never even seen Glee before refusing to allow their songs to appear on it.

Glee is a phenomenon. Despite being nigh on un-watchable to some, the American show has broken all records with its soundtrack albums making mincemeat out of the charts on either side of the Atlantic.

Using iconic songs from famous artists, the cast then perform them in their own inimitable manner. The Beatles are due to get the Glee treatment shortly, but one band who have refused to let their music appear on the show are Kings Of Leon.

Now the band have revealed that it was nothing against the show, as they had not even seen it when they made their decision.

Speaking to Spinner, Caleb Followill explained that more was read into the decision than was necessary. “Everyone took it so seriously when we said no to ‘Glee’ because it’s everyone’s favourite show. But we just had never really seen the show, we didn’t know what it’s about,” Followill said.

“They just said, ‘Hey, do you want your music to be on Glee,’ and we said, ‘No, I don’t think so. We don’t want to.'”

Continuing, the Kings Of Leon singer explained that due to the band’s popularity their music is used in a wide range of contexts – often upsetting the group.

“Now that we’ve become so popular, we get offers everyday for stuff to do: ‘Have your song on a commercial, have your song in a movie, be on this…’ You just have to balance out the stuff that sounds cool and the stuff that doesn’t,” he explains.

“There was a point where we decided we would just say no to everything like that because we didn’t think it was that cool – there’s definitely a balance to the stuff that we can do and the stuff we don’t want to do.”

‘Come Around Sundown’ is out now.
