Kings Of Leon have entered the charts at number one with their new album ‘Come Around Sundown’.
Released in 2008, ‘Only By The Night’ turned Kings Of Leon into household names. The Followills enjoyed enormous success, with singles such as ‘Sex On Fire’ making mincemeat out of the charts.
Playing some huge headline shows, the band drew thousands to Hyde Park earlier this year. Taking a short break, Kings Of Leon surprised fans by revealing that they had already completed their new album.
‘Come Around Sundown’ was released last week, and has capitalised on the band’s momentum. Kings Of Leon scored the biggest first day sales of any album in 2010 to date, racing ahead of the competition.
In the mid-week charts the band nestled at number one, with the final countdown revealing that they were some distance ahead of the opposition.
The official chart company report that Kings Of Leon have sold 183,000 copies of ‘Come Around Sundown’ – the highest tally for any release in 2010. The final total contains some 49,000 downloads, which is an all time record in first week sales.
Elsewhere in the Top Ten, The Beatles occupy two slots. Following last year’s re-issue project, the Fab Four have re-released their famous ‘Red’ and ‘Blue’ collections.
Initially compiled in the early 70s, the albums bring together album highlights with smash hit singles. A starting point for many fans, ‘Red’ and ‘Blue’ separate The Beatles career into two easily digestible chunks.
Re-entering the charts, The Beatles ‘Red’ and ‘Blue’ made their bow at number four and six respectively.
