Kings Of Leon On Studio Life

"We started drinking whiskey so early..."

Kings Of Leon have spoken about the atmosphere in the studio during sessions for ‘Come Around Sundown’.

Kings Of Leon are a rock ‘n’ roll band, in every sense of the word. Sure, they may seem like polite Southern boys but that doesn’t mean that the Followill don’t enjoy cracking open the whisky and letting the party commence.

Retreating to the studio to work on their new album ‘Come Around Sundown’ it seems that the band took the party into the studio. Speaking about those recording sessions, Kings Of Leon explained the free-flowing nature of the way they work.

Asked about new track ‘Back Down South’ the Followills admitted to some booze soaked memories. A country inspired track from the new album, the song was recorded with a bottle of bourbon in one hand.

“It was one of the best times we’ve ever had in the studio!” exclaimed Matthew Followill. “For some reason, we started drinking whiskey so early, at like right when we got there. Like, “hey! Gonna take a shot?” And everybody’s like, “yeah!” So, at the end of the night, we were like, let’s just sing some backup vocals in the end – just sing what Caleb’s singing.”

“And twenty people – all the crew, everybody that worked there – we’re all in the room with a couple of mics.”

However an illness meant that Jared Followill missed out on the party. “I was actually out sick for a couple of days. I was so depressed, sitting at home. I couldn’t do anything. But, they’d send me e-mails of the songs!”

“And I’d be like, “ugh! I wanna be there so bad!” And then they sent me that and it was just like, “why don’t you stab me in the back!” I leave for 5 seconds and you guys have a pizza party on Friday!”
