Superstar indie types Kings Of Leon are due to launch their own record label, which will allow them to nurture and release new talent.
Kings Of Leon have shifted from being an indie phenomenon to become a genuine mainstream concern. The group’s fourth album ‘Only By The Night’ topped the British charts, smashing sales records to become one of the biggest releases of last year.
Even our Stateside friends warmed to their charms. Famously, the Followills have struggled to make an impact in their home land, but ‘Only By The Night’ broke into the Billboard Top Ten becoming their most successful American release to date.
Of course it was ‘Sex On Fire’ that made all the difference. Debuted at T In The Park last year it was immediately apparent that this was a song that could transcend barriers. A smash hit in both indie clubs as well as rough and tumble boozers, the single flew into the British charts at number one.
Now it seems that Kings Of Leon want to help other groups get to that position. The band are set to launch their own label, a joint venture with Los Angeles based music publisher Bug Music.
The imprint is set to launch with an album by fellow Tennesse types The Features. Former touring partners with Kings Of Leon, the two acts are firm friends. The group’s album ‘Some Kind Of Salvation’ will become the first release on the Kings Of Leon’s new label.
“Caleb, Jared, Matthew and Nathan (Followill) are extraordinary tastemakers and constantly absorbing new sounds from all over the world,” said Bug Music CEO John Rudolph. “The honesty in their music is what draws them to genuine artists.”
More details on The Features’ album release will be announced next week.
Kings Of Leon are set to return to the UK shortly. The band are festival favourites and are set to headline a number of event across the country. Returning to T In The Park, the group are also due to headline Ireland’s Oxegen festival.
Organisers asked fans at last year’s event who they most wanted to see, with Kings Of Leon becoming the massively popular winners.
