Kings Of Leon Almost Scrapped Single

'Sex On Fire' was almost binned

Southern indie giants Kings Of Leon watched in amazement as their single ‘Sex On Fire’ topped charts around the world – as the group had almost dropped it from their album.

Formed by the Followill brothers, Kings Of Leon have come a long way since their debut album ‘Youth And Young Manhood’. The group have matured and evolved, and their sound has come with them now occupying a grand, wide-screen rock vision.

Recent album ‘Only By The Night’ is the band’s most successful to date, scooping a Brit award and charting at their highest position to date in the United States. The record’s lead single ‘Sex On Fire’ has been a massive success, still in the UK Top 40 chart more than six months after being released.

However in a new interview the band reveal that they almost dropped the song entirely, after writing too much material for ‘Only By The Night’.

Caleb Followill told the NME “When we had three songs too many for the album, we were taking our picks as to which songs shouldn’t make it.”

“Sex On Fire was my pick. Then, the label bosses flew out and sat down with us and said, ‘We think ‘Sex On Fire’ should be the first single, and they gave us a load of reasons.”

“We were drunk, so we said, ‘This is the only time we’re going to listen to you.’ And it’s done things that no song has ever done. Luckily I got voted out. It’s funny!”

Kings Of Leon are set to return to the UK this summer to play headline slots at festivals such as Oxegen, T In The Park and more.
