King Creosote and Jon Hopkins are set to release new single ‘John Taylor’s Month Away’ on February 6th.
Crossing paths at the Fence Collective’s bash Homegame, King Creosote and Jon Hopkins promised to start a project together. Eventually finding time to sit down together in the studio, the pair laid down a number of tracks last year.
What emerged was quite, quite special. ‘Diamond Mine’ was a compact survey of village life, with King Creosote’s pure voice floating over Jon Hopkins arrangements which contained just a hint of the electronica which made his name.
Rewarded with a Mercury nomination, the pair are set to play the album in its entirety on a new British tour. Announcing a series of dates, King Creosote and Jon Hopkins are also preparing a new single.
Taken from ‘Diamond Mine’, ‘John Taylor’s Month Away’ is based on life at sea. Due for release on February 6th, the track will come backed with a new version of the King Creosote song ‘Missionary’.
Recently covered by Kid Canaveral for a split single, ‘Missionary’ is an older but much loved King Creosote track. Re-worked for the ‘Diamond Mine’ sessions, the new version of ‘Missionary’ will be available on the flip of ‘John Taylor’s Month Away’.
