Kimbra Announces Collaborative Album ‘Idols & Vices (Vol. 1)’

Grammy award-winning, New Zealand-born artist Kimbra has detailed her upcoming collaborative album, ‘Idols & Vices (Vol. 1)’, out September 24th.

A follow-up to last year’s LP ‘A Reckoning‘, Kimbra ushers in her new era with ‘Stuff I Don’t Need’ featuring BANKS, and will continue to release a song every week up until the album release.

A sparse, programmed RnB balm in an age of excess and over-stimulation, Kimbra and BANKS vocally interplay over a pared-back, sonorous groove. “I wrote this song as a call to the present moment in the face of so much vying for our attention,” shares Kimbra. “It’s about realising what you really want in love and life.”

‘Idols and Vices (Vol. 1)’, executive produced by Kimbra and Taylor Graves, surveys themes of digital ephemera, identity invention, toxic celebrity worship, and the allure of online personas. It features contributions from Dan Edinburg, Tommy Raps, Skrillex, BANKS, Dawn Richard and DRAM, and is a celebration of Kimbra’s formative influences in music and her love of collaboration.

The release comes accompanied with anime-inspired visuals masterminded by New Zealand animator Greg Sharp. The animations follow ten characters as they navigate their way through an abyss of “elaborate fantasies and distractions while seeking moments of awakening.”
