Sonic Youth bassist turns designer

Sonic Youth bassist turned fashion designer Kim Gordon is set to unveil a new range of clothes at high street store Urban Outfitters.

How commercially orientated do you have to be before you sell out? Having released a specially tailored 'greatest hits' through Starbucks, a member of Sonic Youth has now teamed up with another massive firm.

Kim Gordon is no stranger to fashion design. Her X-Girl range caused a ruckus in the grunge era by introducing underground fashion to the mainstream. Slick and affordable, it failed to set the heather on fire although it did have notable success in Japan.

Now Gordon is set to try again. Her new Mirror/Dash line was launched last September, with the bassist telling New York Times that "there's a need for clothes for cool moms."

Now it seems that the entire range will become available in Urban Outfitters from February 16th.

Gordon described the range in the New York Times as "something a little less trend oriented, a little more classic, that might appeal to someone say who used to shop at Urban (Outfitters) but wants something slightly less young looking. And we would like to appeal also to the usual Urban customer as well."

Kim Gordon's Mirror/Dash line becomes available in Urban Outfitters stores across the United States on February 16th.
