Las Vegas indie titans The Killers are set to highlight the impact of human trafficking with their new video.
The Killers are one of the biggest bands in Britain right now. Last year’s album ‘Day & Age’ soared to number one, buoyed by the enormous success of lead single ‘Human’.
“Are you we human? Or are we dancer” Brandon Flowers asked, and while no one had the answer millions of us went and bought the single. The band are due to kick off a busy festival schedule soon, but are set to release a single before then.
Taken from their recent album ‘Goodnight, Travel Well’ is The Killers’ contribution to the summer soundtrack. However beneath the bluster of the song lies a charitable soul, with the band shooting a shocking new video.
Shot in collaboration with MTV EXIT (End Exploitation And Trafficking), UNICEF and USAID the film shows a woman who has been sexually exploited. Devised by advertising agency Colman Rasic Carrasco the video follows in the footsteps of a similar video for Radiohead’s ‘All I Need’ in 2008.
In a statement The Killers said “we are deeply shocked and appalled that women and children are forced into such exploitative situations.”
The Las Vegas band added that they hoped the video would allow “millions of people across the world learn about this tragic form of modern-day slavery”.
Human trafficking is a major problem. Each year, 1.2 million children are trafficked around the world while nearly 80% of all trafficking is for sexual exploitation. young women and girls are deemed most at risk.
The Killers’ new video for ‘Goodnight, Travel Well’ is due to be broadcast for the first time in Britain on July 13th.
The news follows on from the recent announcement that The Killers track ‘All These Things That I’ve Done’ is due to be given an overhaul by the charity War Child. Featuring a host of star performers the track will be released later this year.
Of course, The Killers do more than just raise money for charity. The band are a sensational live act, and are due to hit the festival trail this weekend. The Las Vegas group are due to headline T In The Park before making the short hop across the Irish Sea to Oxegen.
