Killers Song Used For War Child

Big names arranged for charity

The Killers song ‘All These Thing That I’ve Done’ is set to be re-worked for a new single in support of the charity War Child.

Sitting in front of your computer, not doubt in the British Isles somewhere, the person reading this will perhaps have no real experience of warfare. Yet millions of young people around the world aren’t so lucky.

Each year millions of children in war torn countries receive help from War Child, a charity that does valuable work across the world. War Child has earned a reputation as being an organisation that doesn’t know when to quit – that stay even when advised to flee the area.

The charity also has a reputation for blending music and volunteer work in a spectacular fashion. Last year War Child confirmed details of its new compilation ‘Heroes’ which featured massive artists nominating new talent to cover their work.

Featuring the likes of Bob Dylan inviting Beck to take on ‘Leopard Skin Pill Box Hat’, the album was a triumph. Artists queued up to be a part of a wonderful experiment, with former Stone Roses guitarist John Squire providing the artwork.

Now War Child are set to usher a host of top names into the studio to work on a very special single. The charity chose The Killers’ ‘All These Things That I’ve Done’ in order to take advantage of its anthemic chorus ‘I’ve got soul, but I’m not a soldier’.

Highlighting the plight of child soldiers, the track is set to be covered by a multi-talented ensemble. War Child’s music and entertainment director, Ben Knowles told BBC Newsbeat: “The concept was born out of the big collaboration that was done last year with Coldplay, The Killers, Bono and Gary Barlow, when they all got together and sang this song.”

“So we thought we’d take it one step further and try and get the message out to a new generation.”

“The Killers have totally approved the track and it’s going to be big. Some of the artists have already had five number one tracks between them this year so far. It’s very exciting.”

Amongst the artists involed are the likes of Pixie Lott, N-Dubz and many more. VV Brown laid down some lines for the track, telling BBC Newsbeat “I think it’s really easy when you’re a musician to get consumed with your own self.”

“You’re making music and you know, everyone’s asking you questions about your life and stuff. I think it’s nice to give something to someone else and be part of something conscious”.

Named ‘The Young Soul Rebels’ the group are due to release their version of ‘All These Things That I’ve Done’ in August.
