The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers has given a controversial new interview in which he claims Nivana made rock music depressing.
Poor old Kurt Cobain. Almost fifteen years to the day since the grunge icon took his life, Brandon Flowers has laid the boot in by insisting that his group Nirvana took the fun out of rock ‘n’ roll.
Flowers isn’t the only critic of Nirvana. Oasis famously had a dislike of the group, while the Britpop era was full of anti-American statements from bands both great and small. Cobain’s legacy has grown since his death, with books, films and unreleased recordings littering the shelves.
The Killers clearly aren’t a fan of this paraphernalia, with Brandon Flowers criticising Kurt Cobain in a new interview with British tabloid newspaper Daily Star.
“I don’t mean it in a bad way but I think Kurt Cobain and grunge took the fun out of rock and roll,” he said.
Flowers then went on to say that his group is making American music “a lot more playful and brighter”.
The Killers have been constantly in the tabloids of late. The group have been dogged by accusations of in-fighting, with devout Mormon Brandon Flowers said to be acting as mediator.
The group have been confirmed as headliners for numerous European festivals this summer, with The Killers due to headline V, Hove and Benacassim.
