Killer Mike Details Grammy Arrest On ‘HUMBLE ME’

The Atlanta rapper addresses life's highs and lows with a triumphant new single...

After winning three Grammy Awards in February – including Rap Album of the Year – for his autobiographical ‘MICHAEL’, Killer Mike was taken away in handcuffs, leading to a lot of speculation.

Now the Atlanta veteran addresses the event on a new single ‘HUMBLE ME’, which acts as an epilogue to his ‘MICHAEL’ era before he moves onto new creative endeavours.

Mike was released the morning after his arrest and the following day received news that a kidney donor had been found for his son Pony Boy.

“I was in the studio the very next day. I’m as inspired as ever and I’m just following the music at this point,” says Mike, in a statement released alongside ‘HUMBLE ME’. “All my heroes have been cuffed and mishandled in some way. I just thanked God in that moment of being Daniel in the lion’s den. I came out of the jailhouse in the pouring rain to my wife waiting for me, lit a joint, celebrated a bit and then woke up and got the news about my son’s kidney. I believe that humility and worship granted me God’s grace in the face of that test, and I believe my son receiving his kidney was a blessing from God.”

‘HUMBLE ME’ addresses the above, and in its accompanying video we see Mike stripped of all external symbols of success before being handcuffed. In its final shot we see him embracing Pony Boy. “The video and it’s love-filled, triumphant ending are a visual testament to that night and God’s glory in writing mine and Pony’s story,” says Mike.
