London based bluesmen Kill It Kid are set to get festive with the release of a new Christmas themed download.
Kill It Kid have curiously bizarre origins. The band were a group of unknown students in Bath until producer John Parish – of PJ Harvey collaborative fame – stepped in.
The producer was invited to record a band as part of an arts project, with an invited audience looking on. Kill It Kid were chosen, and the pairing was ideal with John Parish able to hone the band’s blues rock bluster.
Attracting attention with their Parish enhanced debut EP ‘Send Me And Angel Down’ the band were packed off to the United States to get a dose of the real thing into their delta bluster. Kill It Kid returned with their startling debut album, which takes the passion of Led Zeppelin and melds it to something a raw as greats like Charley Patton and Son House.
The band attracted wider attention, playing a series of sensation tour dates. Kill It Kid opened London’s infamous Dirty Mac Club, a hub of debauchery in thrall to legendary 60s haunts such as The Ad Lib.
Now Kill It Kid have returned to the studio to work on a special cover version. The band have chosen to record Low’s ‘Just Like Christmas’ and have given the original a raucous re-working.
“Low’s ‘Just Like Christmas’ is a great tune, with an understated lyric and tender sentiment that we felt – with all our festive strength – we could break into a duet and still compliment the narrative. So we put it in front of the fire, filled it with cinnamon, brandy, and cranberry sauce and put some spurs on it!”
