Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Mr. Morale…’ Is 6Music’s Album Of The Year 2022

K Dot tops this year's poll...

Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers’ has been named 6Music’s Album Of The Year 2022.

The station has polled each of its broadcasters – and their respective teams – and collated the results. The full countdown has been ongoing all morning (November 29th), and the winner has just been announced.

Kendrick Lamar’s mighty double album ‘Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers’ has been named 6Music’s Album of The Year, with Gilles Peterson introducing the record to listeners in a special segment on Lauren Laverne’s morning show.

Mary Anne Hobbs is hosting a toast to Kendrick’s latest masterpiece, and she comments: “I think it’s fair to say, it’s rare that one artist can unite the whole of the 6 Music family, with our vast diversity of tastes and preferences. But Kendrick is peerless, and with ‘Mr Morale & The Big Steppers’, he’s done it.”

Samantha Moy, Head of BBC Radio 6 Music, says: “6 Music’s Albums of the Year celebrates the work of some incredible artists who have been championed by our passionate presenters across 2022.  As always, 6 Music will be taking a deeper exploration of each of these fine albums throughout December. Congratulations to all of our selected artists and especially to Kendrick Lamar for his acclaimed album, Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers.”

The final Top 10 is typically eclectic, with Mercury nominees Yard Act coming in at No. 2 with debut album ‘The Overload’. Kae Tempest is in third place, while other notable entries include Wet Leg, Fontaines D.C., and Welsh artist Gwenno.
