Kendrick Lamar
It's an exceptionally rare honour for the Compton artist...

Kendrick Lamar's 2017 album 'DAMN.' has picked up the Pulitzer Prize For Music.

The award is given to exceptional composers, and usually rests in the hands of the classical or jazz world.

Kendrick Lamar has become the first hip-hop artist to pick up the gong, with the announcement coming almost a year to the day after the album's release.

In a note on the Pulitzer Prize website organisers said 'DAMN.' was "a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life."
