Kendrick Lamar delivered a provocative, politicised set at the Grammy awards.
The rapper was nominated for a total of 11 awards at the ceremony, and was granted the opportunity to perform live.
Blazing through 'Blacker' and 'Alright' Kendrick delivered one of the night's most discussed performances. 'The BlackerThe Berry' began with the rapper in chains, while 'Alright' found the set transformed into an African theme – the performance ended with a map of African with 'COMPTON' emblazoned across it.
Grammys producer Ken Ehrlich told Billboard before the show:
"Kendrick came to us and said that we live in a time where these issues confront us every day and that it’s important that they be given a public forum, and he would like to use his x number of minutes to create a great performance that is consistent with his this year. It is overtly political and it is overtly provocative, and I think if nothing else it’s going to give people something to think about and talk about."
