South London singer-songwriter Kemi Ade returns with new single ‘Gaslight’, out via Doctored Sound.
Over crisp, retro-stylized production, Ade sings of the turbulence that often mars modern romance – the gaslighting, the manipulation, the power-play. Lyrically Ade contrasts feelings of emotional strife and disillusionment with bright, hazy production courtesy of Simon Byrt (Jessie Ware).
Of the single, Ade shares: “I wanted to create a song that not only expresses that frustration but also shows that you can be the villain or the victim in this story.”
‘Gaslight’ is Ade’s reintroduction to the game, her first release since 2022 singles, ‘Trip.‘ and ‘5683‘. ‘Gaslight’ will be followed by a run of singles, building towards a new project titled ‘THE FIX’.
Kemi Ade, was born in Hammersmith and raised in South London, and has quietly emerged as nex-gen RnB artist skirting the underground. Drawing from her rich Nigerian heritage as well as homegrown influences, he singer has developed a nuanced, malleable style that flits between synth-laden slow burners and more propulsive mid-tempos.
