Bloc Party singer Kele Okereke is streaming a track from his new solo album – and you can listen to it now!
One of the most influential guitar bands of the past decade, it seems that Bloc Party were dance heads all along. Sending their third album ‘Intimacy’ to be remixed by a host of producers, the band have now decided to take a break to follow their own electronic vision.
Guitarist Russell Lissack is currently on tour with Ash (fine, they don’t fit the theme) but his side project Pin Me Down are deeply influenced by dance music. Lead singer Kele Okereke, meanwhile, has been working on his debut solo album.
Named ‘The Boxer’ the record is due to be released on June 21st through his long term home of Wichita. Kept firmly under wraps, Kele Okereke debuted lead single ‘Tenderoni’ on Zane Lowe’s Radio 1 show last night (April 28th).
Now the singer has made it available to stream from his website. The lead single from ‘The Boxer’ the new track continues the electronic experimentation of Bloc Party’s perhaps mis-understood third album.
Meanwhile, Bloc Party guitarist Russell Lissack recently told ClashMusic that the band decided to take a break to placate their long suffering families. “We’d been on tour pretty much solidly since 2004, so we’d been on the road for five years” he explained.
“It’s a long time, we were pretty tired. I love touring and playing shows and seeing the world but it’s pretty tiring. We’ve all got families as well, so everyone was eager to take time off.”
