Keane singer Tom Chaplin has spoken about his problems with drugs, and his new obsession with golf.
Keane never cease to surprise. A piano led trio, their early hits had the band marked as polite indie poppers. Since then, however, the band have embarked on a drug fuelled path leasing straight to a hip hop crossover.
Strange. Speaking to The Sun recently, Tom Chaplin reflected on a drug habit which forced him to enter rehab centre The Priory back in 2006.
Driven to drink and drugs by the pressures of touring, the singer weaned himself off chemicals by using golf. “I am actually quite obsessed with it,” he revealed before adding that Alice Cooper helped inspire him.
“When Alice Cooper needed to give up booze he said ‘What the hell am I going to do if I can’t drink?’, so he started playing golf and became completely obsessed with it – and that’s kind of the same as what happened to me.”
Continuing, Tom Chaplin reflected on Cooper’s famous love of golf and doubted if he had the same commitment as the American rocker. “Alice’s whole tour schedule is built around playing golf” the Keane frontman claimed.
“I don’t know if the same thing is going to happen for Keane, but it certainly gives me some relief.”
Keane are gearing up to the release of their new eight track EP ‘Night Train’. Due for release on May 10th the forthcoming EP contains some of their most adventurous material to date, including appearances from rappers.
