American musician Katrina Ford has shared new solo cut ‘Dundalk Dungeon’.
Out now, it finds the songwriter – lauded for her role in Celebration and Mt Royal – toasting a view from her home city. ‘Dundalk Dungeon’ borrows its title from a fictional bar, down by the docks of Baltimore, and comes to represent something of the city’s character.
Opaque in its sonic palette, ‘Dundalk Dungeon’ is also tethered to DIY spirits, a toast to the communities around her.
The song also has a reflective tone – the view from that area has changed, with the Key Bridge collapse leaving a legacy of loss.
Beautifully rendered, Katrina Ford shares the song, with a note:
This song was inspired by the view of the Harbor from 395. It was a clear day and seeing at the time the Key Bridge and Dundalk Terminal. I feel like this song has an energetic yet sleepy feeling.
We wrote this song in July 2023. Tragically, on 26th March six construction workers were killed when a container ship struck the Key Bridge and it collapsed. This is lighthearted though, inspired by the beauty and the grime of Baltimore. In Dundalk Dungeon, the Baltimore harbor’s geography is personified as a gambler in an illegal establishment, a secret bar known as The Dungeon. Now its meaning is more nuanced, with the loss.
Tune in now.
