Inverness based Katie Gregson-Macleod has given her song ‘complex (demo)’ an official release.
You may well have heard the song already – placed inauspiciously on TikTok, it’s since become a phenomenon, earning millions of plays in the process. In just two weeks it’s inspired a plethora of cover versions, including fresh takes from Camila Cabello, King Princess, Madison Beer, and Tom Walker.
Currently, though, Katie is working in a coffee shop in Inverness, watching in bewilderment as the numbers keep going up, up, and up. Snapped up by Columbia, ‘complex (demo)’ has now been given an official release, a neat point to recap her achievements to date.
A song that thrives on intimacy, its spartan template puts us in mind of Clairo, but there’s a quiet confidence to Katie’s work that eases gently into a realm of its own.
The new single follows on from her debut EP – released last year – and her independently released debut single. Still only 21 years old, Katie Gregson-Macleod is very much an artist to watch out for.
Tune in now.
