Kate Nash / Metronomy Collaboration

New album under way

Smash hit songwriter Kate Nash is set to work on a number of new songs with electro group Metronomy.

Kate Nash sprang to fame after becoming a star on the London open mic circuit. Together with Jack Penate she seemed to represent a new generation of songwriters emerging from the capital.

Sure, early single ‘Caroline Is A Victim’ is a bit grating, but Kate Nash recovered to deliver a number of chart gems. ‘Foundations’ is a foul mouthed pop classic, almost out doing Lily Allen in her blend of sweet melody and biting lyrics.

Debut album ‘Made Of Bricks’ was a critical and commercial success. Becoming a star name, the singer went on tour playing ever bigger venues as fans flocked to her playful pop.

Returning to the rehearsal studio, Kate Nash has been working on new material for some time. The ever coy singer was reluctant to give anything away in a recent interview, but did let slip that she had begun working with Metronomy.

“It won’t be under my name or Metronomy,” she told the Daily Star, adding that the songs would most likely be released to DJs. “It’s going to be an underground side project.”

Nash also revealed that she is set to collaborate with Bernard Butler on her new album. The former Suede guitarist is set to begin producing the ‘Foundations’ singer’s new effort as soon as he has finished working with Kate Jackson.

Once the singer with The Long Blondes, Jackson went solo following the split of the Leeds band last year. Her shimmying 80s indie pop was always a welcome treat, so any news of a solo album is to be welcomed.

Butler has become the producer du jour of late. After working on Duffy’s ‘Rockferry’ the soundsmith was inundated with offers, and received much praise for his realisation of the Welsh singer’s soul vision.

Named as ‘Producer Of The Year’ at the inaugural UK Producer Awards, Bernard Butler will be sure to add a sweeping grandeur to Kate Nash’s new album.

Kate Nash is due to begin work on her new album later this year.
