Yeah Yeah Yeahs singer Karen O has contributed to the soundtrack of forthcoming flick ‘Where The Wild Things Are’ and new details have emerged of her musical contribution.
Karen O has been a busy woman. Brooklyn trio Yeah Yeah Yeahs released their new album ‘It’s Blitz’ earlier this year, recorded with TV On The Radio mainman Dave Sitek at his own studio.
A stunning return, it saw guitarist Nick Zinner put aside his six string in favour of some vintage synth sounds. However this wasn’t some Noisettes electro crossover schtick – the group have blended their new musical palette with a very distinctive songwriting style.
Playing numerous festival dates throughout the summer, Karen O stunned the audience at T In The Park by emerging with a massive Native American head-dress. The ever fashionable star has also found time to work on the new Spike Jonze movie ‘Where The Wild Things Are’.
Details of both the film and the soundtrack have emerged throughout the year, with Karen O set to be joined a lengthy list of collaborators. Arcade Fire have donated a re-recorded version of their classic ‘Wake Up’ with many more artists set to contribute.
Karen O has formed a makeshift group to work on the soundtrack, with the musicians going under the name The Kids. American magazine Rolling Stone reports that The Kids contain Deerhunter/Atlas Sound mastermind Bradford Cox and Yeah Yeah Yeahs/Folk Implosion collaborator Imaad Wasif.
The magazine also states that other contributors to the soundtrack include fellow Yeah Yeah Yeahs band members Nick Zinner and Brian Chase, Dead Weather members Dean Fertita and Jack Lawrence, Liars’ Aaron Hemphill, the Bird and the Bee’s Greg Kurstin, Services’ Tristan Bechet, and Gris Gris’s Oscar Michel, as well as a children’s choir.
‘Where The Wild Things Are’ opens on October 16th. The movie soundtrack is released on September 29th in the United States, with Karen O And The Kids due to release their first single ‘All Is Love’ on August 25th.
